Compare the main character of your Guided Reading text to a character in another book you have read. Name the two characters, and tell what book they are from. How are the characters similar? How are they different? (List at least 2 examples for similarities, and 2 for differences).

I'm comparing Maniac from, Maniac Magee, and Elijah from, Elijah of Buxton. Both are really awesome books. In Maniac Magee, Maniac is always running. In a split city, Maniac crosses the border between the West End, where the whites live, and the East End, where the blacks live. That is daring because blacks hate whites and Jeffrey (aka Maniac) is white. Elijah, the main character in Elijah of Buxton, is living during the American Civil War. Buxton isn't even in America though, it's in Canada! The only reason Elijah got in conflict with the Rebels (Confederacy), is because a thief stole his best friends money. He rides on horseback with his friend into America. To catch the thief. But they must be careful for slave catchers because ELijah is black.
ReplyDeleteThe main charictor in my book is PonyBoy and the other person is Moe!They are the similay by they both have a couragus mind and they are in a book!They are different by being in a different book and ones a boy ones a girl!
ReplyDeleteThe two main characters I chose are Jeffery from Maniac Magee and Halt from The Rangers Apprentice. They are both similar in two ways they both have no parents and they both don't have homes. They are different in two ways also because Halt is a ranger witch is a hunter and Jeffery just runs all around in the city and another example is that Halt is with some friends and Jeffery has no friends at all he is a stranger to people.

ReplyDeleteSimilar - Both girls have a something wrong with their bodies. Both girls feel like they don't fit in at school.
Differences- Jessica was burned in a fire and Melody was born with a disability. Jessica is able to talk to communicate and Melody uses a computer to communicate.
Maniac is like Rogerick in the book diary of a wimpy kid.Cuz Rogrike is teeanger they bolth like to do silly things.How there not alike is maniac ties knots and rogerick is in a band.
ReplyDeleteFreak is like Zero in Holes because Zero is small like Freak. They are both small and short. The only different thing I can think of is Freak is really smart and Zero is kind of dumb. They both like adventure. Zero lost his mom and Freaks dad went missing.
ReplyDeleteI am going to compare Max from Freak the Mighty and Cassia from Matched. They are similar because they both are determined to fight for what they believe in. They are also similar because they both have certain limits that they can not exceed. They are different because Freak has to ride around on Max's shoulders or on a wagon and Cassia can walk. Cassia can't pick her job, who she marries, or when she dies, and Freak can.

Johnny from The Outsiders and Joan Lee from The Star Fisher are both similar and different. Johnny doesn't feel very wanted in his family and Joan doesn't feel very wanted in her new community. They are also similar because when someone needs help they help them. Johnny helped the kids in the fire and Joan helps her papa run their laundry store. Johnny and Joan are also very different. Joan just moved to the town and Johnny has lived with his family since he was born. Also Johnny is just American and Joan is Chinese-American.

ReplyDeletesimilarities: Both are kind to people. Both are very strong. Both are boys.
Differences: Peta had to kill some people to stay alive. Max only punched through some glass at the hospital, and was not violent.
I would compare ponyboy to Harry potter because they are both adventurous. They both have lots of friends. ponyboy is not magical.
